Use cases

What can be done with Walimex?

Walimex is a sensible choice if you want to build a complete studio setup without planning a large budget. Focus: functional sets and clean results.

Use 01

Home studio entry

With a Walimex flash set, you can set up a functional home studio in a normal room. A compact flash with softbox and light stand is enough for portraits, product photos and social media content.

Setup: Flash set (single) + neutral background on background stand

Use 02

Product photography for online shops

For e-commerce product shots on a white background, you need even, reflection-free light from two sides. Walimex sets with softboxes help to create clearly lit product images.

Setup: 2 light set (Key/Fill) + two softboxes + white background

Use 03

YouTube & Video-Content

For YouTube videos and podcast recordings, uniform continuous light makes more sense than flashes. Walimex LED continuous lighter with bi-color option allows quick adjustment to the ambient lighting. The light stands hold all common LED panels.

Setup: Walimex lamp stand + LED panel bi-color as main light + second LED as brightener - adjust color temperature to room lighting

Use 04

Outdoor & Reportage

For outdoor shots without power, a portable 5-in-1 reflector works well as a brightener or light shield.

Setup: Walimex 5-in-1 reflector 90 cm on Walimex lamp stand with reflector arm - sunlight as main light, reflector for fill light

Use 05

Schools and training

Walimex is often used in photography schools and training institutions. The robust, uncomplicated sets enable learners to enter studio photography directly without expensive special hardware. Spare parts and extensions are readily available.

Recommendation: 2 light set + background system + reflectors and light shapers for practical lessons

Use 06

Portrait & beauty in a small space

Portrait shots can be easily planned even in small rooms of approx. 3x4 m. A large Octabox as the main light and a reflector as a brightener are a proven two-light portrait setup that can be implemented with Walimex.

Setup: Main light with Octabox + brightener with reflector - enough for clean results

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Walimex

What is the difference between Walimex and Walimex pro?+

Walimexis the entry-level line: inexpensive complete sets, solid basic quality, ideal for hobby photographers and occasional studio use.Walimex prois designed for frequent use: depending on the model, with more reserves, faster processes and a more robust build. Both lines use the same speed ring system, so Walimex softboxes can also be used on Walimex pro flashes.

Are Walimex softboxes compatible with other flash systems?+

Walimex softboxes use the Walimex/K bayonet speed ring. Adapter speedrings are available for other flash systems, for example forBowens/Aurora, Elinchrom, Profoto, Broncolor, Henseland others. This means: Walimex softboxes can also be used on many studio flash systems and are not tied to a specific system.

How large does a home studio need to be?+

For simple portrait shots with a 1-light setup, a room of approx. 3×3 m is often enough. For a 2-light setup with background, 3×4 m to 4×5 m is more comfortable. The room height is also crucial: at 2.5 m you can already work with a lamp tripod and softbox above head height. In very small rooms, a white ceiling or wall helps as a natural brightener to get by with a single light.

Do I need a radio trigger for Walimex studio flashes?+

Walimex studio flashes have a built-in slave sensor and can be triggered by the flash of another device, such as a camera flash. This means you can often get by without a separate radio trigger. If you need TTL control or precise channel control, a dedicated radio trigger makes sense. Depending on the model, Walimex pro flashes already have an integrated 2.4 GHz receiver.

Which background color is suitable for product photography?+

White is the standard for e-commerce and online shops (Amazon, eBay, own shop) - easy to isolate, clean and neutral. Grey (light grey to medium grey) is more versatile for portraits and products when you want to keep the background tonality flexible. Black is useful for dramatic product and beauty shots. Colour can work well for social media content.

Which Walimex set is recommended for getting started?+

For entry, sets with two light sources are practical: two flash units with softboxes and stands as a complete two-light setup. This allows portraits, products and simple beauty shots to be taken directly. If you do background work, add a background system and a neutral roll of paper or fabric to the set.
